What is cellulite?

Cellulite a super common skin condition that consists of fatty tissues underneath the skin, leading to the skin looking dimpled.

Cellulite can be more common amongst females – This is because women’s fat typically distributes to the thighs, butt and arms.

Cellulite on your arms – The causes

Cellulite can appear on any area of the body. But it’s more likely that cellulite will develop in areas that are prone to fatty tissue, such as the back of the arm, thighs or butt.

Some of the causes for cellulite are:

Age: when we age, our bodies collagen production reduces, therefore, our skin loses elasticity.

Gender: Females are more prone to cellulite, this is because women’s fat typically distributes to the butt, thighs and arms.

Weight loss: losing weight too quickly can cause your body to develop saggy, excess skin, and become more prone to cellulite.

Weight gain: Weight gain can make cellulite more noticeable, but some lean people have cellulite too.

Diet: A diet high in salt can make the cellulite worse, salt retains fluid therefore, enhancing the cellulites appearance. In addition, too much sugar can exacerbate cellulite, excess sugar sits within the fatty cells, therefore causing the fatty cells to the expand and cellulite appearing more prominent.

Poor circulation: Bad blood circulation causes water retention and cellulite. The causes for this could be from not moving enough, genes, to diet.

Dehydration: When our skin is dehydrated, it can become dry and tight, leading to our skin becoming weaker and thinner. Resulting in a loss of elasticity, and ultimately developing cellulite. Our bodies also need water to flush out toxic buildup in the fat cells that cause cellulite.

Genetics: Family history contributes to an increased susceptibility for developing cellulite.

How to get rid of cellulite on your arms

Have no fear, there are plenty of ways to deal with cellulite on arms. With a good routine, commitment and applying a few home practices, you have the potential of reducing the appearance of cellulite.

Get moving

Moving our bodies is one of the most important ways you can reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Strength training

Especially when combined with diet and movement — This will help reduce the appearance of cellulite when reducing fat, and increasing muscle tone. Strong triceps are key to tone, lean arms.

I recommend trying out this tricep workout.

Swap fizzy drinks and caffeine for water

Caffeine not only drys your skin, and increases the risk for cellulite, but typically when drinking coffee or fizzy drinks, it can replace the need for a glass of water, therefore reducing your daily water intake. In addition, fizzy drinks are loaded with sugar, and most people tend to add sugar to their coffee. Sugar expands the fat cells, causing the cellulite to appear more prominent. Try swapping your fizzy drinks and/or caffeine for infused water.

Foam rolling

Foam rolling can also help reduce the appearance of cellulite, by encouraging deeper muscle activation, improving blood circulation, and breaks up the fatty tissues. You can purchase foam rollers here.

Loofah brush

Dry brushing helps get rid of cellulite and improves blood circulation to the surface of the dermis. Try out these loofah brushes

Massaging

Regular lymphatic drainage massage is an excellent way to smooth out cellulite on arms and fix lymphatic drainage. Massaging the skin can ‘roll out’ the lumpy fat cells.

You can even try massaging at home, increasing blood circulation, evening out the skin, and using oils that target cellulite. Try using oils such as cedar wood, fennel, lavender, or lemon. Always blend your essential oil with a carrier oil such as avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba, or calendula.

Self Tanner

Self-tanner is one of the best ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite. If you’ve got fair skin, then you’ve probably noticed you feel good when you’re tanned? Not only does it cover any signs of cellulite or skin creases, but it also gives definition to areas causing a slimming effect.

Wear sunscreen

When in the sun, make sure you apply sun cream to the back of your arms. UV rays can damage collagen production, which ultimately makes cellulite more apparent. Even better.. use self tanner and stay out of the sun!

A diet full of antioxidants

A diet full of antioxidants will reduce and get rid of cellulite on arms, and promote collagen production. Include vitamin B, D, Omegas, and vitamin C.

Clean Eating

While being overweight can cause cellulite, it is also common for those who are lean. Avoid processed foods, refined sugars and excess salts in your diet. Carbs is also another key contributor to cellulite, particularly those with high sugars,

Detoxing

Detoxing is an excellent way to a ‘clean diet’. I wouldn’t recommend replacing your meals with juicing, as it’s not sustainable. However, a morning juice will kick start your metabolism, eliminate toxins and flush out you system of all the bad stuff that causes cellulite.

Seaweed

Soaking in a seaweed bath or adding it to your diet is a powerful detox strategy for cellulite.

Green tea

Adding green tea to your daily routine will excel your results. Not only green tea will hydrate your body, but it’s loaded with anti-inflammatory catechins, which stimulates the body and break down fat.

Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne boosts your metabolism by heating up the body temperature. Simply adding to your smoothie or morning juice will give you the wake up call needed to kick start your day.

Conclusion

Cellulite on arms can be hard to shift, but with the right dedication you can achieve great results with these dietary tips, remedies and workouts.
