Looking for a dry shampoo for dark hair?

Let’s get real, washing your hair can be such an inconvenience. Thankfully, some intelligent individual created the dry shampoo and it is literally one of the best creations of all time. This total lifesaver of a product is perfect when it comes to fitting in with busy diaries. It’s a product that I use regularly in between hair washes, in my gym bag and on the go for an emergency fringe fix!

I can’t endorse Dry shampoo enough – it is a fantastic product for saving you time, giving your roots volume, and removing excess oil for a clean and fresh look.

HOWEVER, there has been too many occasions in the past where I’ve used dry shampoo in a rush, and unknowingly walked out the door with a white stripe at the back of my head. Sound familiar?? You’re definitely not alone on this one.

So, If you’re like me, and you have dark hair, this is one of the most annoying things about dry shampoo. It contains a starch, which can leave a white powdery, chalky residue that can be difficult to blend naturally, therefore, leaving a dull and grey look to your hair.

How to apply dry shampoo for dark hair

If you have dark hair, your dry shampoo should complement your hair colour, although it’s helpful to buy a brunette dry shampoo,  It’s not always just about the product, its all in the technique. Here goes…

  1. Shake the bottle for 30 seconds to thoroughly mix the product.
  2. Hold the can 30cm from your head, spray the dry shampoo around the crown of the head, and hair line.
  3. Starting with the side of your hair as this can be the oilers area – Separate your hair into sections and apply at the roots.
  4. Wait a few minutes and use your fingers to rub your head and blend the product into the hair.
  5. Finally, tip your head upside down and use the hairdryer on a cool setting. This will not only remove the white residue but also give your roots an uplift!

Remember: Try not to use dry shampoo for dark hair as you would a hairspray. Apply directly to the roots that look oily, and I tend to work it through the crown area, hairline and focus on my fringe area as this can get oilier than most sections.
