There’s nothing worse than getting stuck in the rain, having spent time curling, waving or straightening your hair that simply doesn’t stand a chance against the washout. When this happens, we tend to toss it up in a pony tail or bun for a quick fix. But why do we sacrifice looking and feeling good when it comes to bad weather? Isn’t it bad enough that it’s raining? Here is my guide to hairstyles for rainy days.

11 Rainy Day Hairstyles Tips

1. Cold rinse

Before stepping out of the shower, give your hair a quick cold rinse. This will prevent your skin and hair from drying out and causing frizz.

2.Use a Microfibre towel

Using an ordinary towel can irritate the cuticle, causing frizz.

3.Fully Dry Before Going Outside

Mornings can be a rush, but ensuring that our hair is fully dry before leaving the house will help prevent frizz.

4.Use Wide-Tooth Combs to Detangle Your Hair

Getting a wide tooth comb that you can use on your hair while you’re in the shower will make a massive difference in detangling. Not only it protects your hair from damage, but prevents frizz.

5.Use anti frizz texture spray

Use hair styling products moderately, consider using an anti frizz texture spray, this will keep the frizz under control, partially around the parting area.

6.Sea Salt

Sea salt adds extra thickness and heaviness to your hair, making it easier to style when wet.

7.Apply hair serum when wet

Choose a hair serum that contains silicone ingredients. The silicone will realign your hair fibres and give you a smooth look.  This Kerastase hair serum will give incredible results!

8.Avoid Sulphates products

This can be found in many shampoos that can damage your hair. There are plenty of sulphate free shampoos on the market.

9.Don’t straighten your hair when wet

Avoid any heat tool on your hair as it can cause damage and frizz, always apply heat protector before drying your hair on a medium heat.

10. Use a Hair Mask

Using a hair mask will lock in the hydration and prevent your hair from drying out and causing frizz. I’d suggest choosing a product with Avocado oil as this will tame the frizz. Again, try this Kerastase product for the best results!

11.Don’t over shampoo

Over shampooing can dry your hair out, leading to frizz.

5 Home Remedies for hairstyles on rainy days

There are lots of options for hairstyles for rainy days, products and treatments that can be applied at home to prevent frizz from the washout.

Avocado Hair Mask

Avocado is rich in vitamins A and E, Mix together one avocado with 2 tablespoon of yoghurt or 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. Make sure the consistency is thick like a hair mask, it shouldn’t be thin like a serum.

Coconut Oil Treatment

After you shampoo your hair, apply coconut oil to the ends of your hair to lock in moisture, avoiding the roots as this can cause oily hair. Leave for 15 minutes, and rinse thoroughly.

Argan oil

Argan oil is rich in antioxidants and vitamin E. It contains powerful moisturising ingredients, such as oleic acid and linoleic acid. Use a few drops to the end of the hair when wet

Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

Apple cider vinegar is an excellent treatment for hair frizz. After you shampoo your hair, pour apple cider vinegar all over your hair and let it sit for 1 minute, then rinse. The vinegar will have a strong odour but it should disappear once you’ve washed the hair. Condition as normal.

Eggs

Eggs – crack 2 eggs into a bowl and whisk them up. Apply the mixture all over the hair and leave it on for 20 minutes. Shampoo thoroughly and finish using a good quality conditioner.
